The Ankh was originally the female symbol of the Goddess. In Egypt. It later became known as “the key of the Nile”. A symbol of life.
The “foot prints of Buddah” or the red henna-dyed feet of the Goddess are still worshipped in shrines all over India.
The foot print is a marking which represents “I have been here” or “I have walked with the all knowing”.
The hamsa, or Hand of Fatimah, commemorates Fatima Zahra, the daughter of the Prophet Muhammad. It represents blessings, power and strength making it potent in deflecting the evil eye. It can be worn as a gesture for hope, peace, and prosperity.
Today the heart is a symbol which represents love, but it was found in alchemic texts and stained glass windows centuries before. The sacred heart was adopted by the Catholic church in the 17th century and is a representation of the soul. It is found on the borders of doors and windows to protect evil from entering.
To the ancient Egyptians, a lotus bud or sesen was a symbol of rebirth. It closes in the evening and falls to the water, but in the morning it opens and is lifted above the surface. It can also mean purity.
Originally, the skull was used by oracles to learn the secrets of the afterlife. On the Day of the Dead, sugar skulls are used to adorn alters of loved ones who have passed to the afterlife.

Hi! I am Gitane. I live and dance in Fort Worth, Tx. Gitane’s Treasures is a combination of my passion for both Middle Eastern Dance and Metalsmithing. The first costume I created in 1994 while earning my Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts at North Texas State University.
The first swords, I created in 1998. These are the two swords I still use today. My work has extended into separate pieces and full costumes.
All of my work is hand crafted and a one-of-a-kind piece. Each piece made of brass, nickel silver or copper is given its own individual attention. I've drawn inspiration for my designs from many countries and cultures.
Please browse my unique Treasures. or contact me if you want a piece created just for you.
